The opportunity

As Year Leader for BA Product & Furniture Design, you’ll take academic leadership and management responsibility of the year, and co-develop and deliver the curriculum working with the Course Leader and wider team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a team developing the course’s strategic vision and future design through re-approval process in 2023/24.

The role requires that you preside over the day-to-day management of the academic year including learning, teaching and assessment of students, resource allocation whilst observing and implementing the policies and procedures of the University and College. The successful applicant will play a key role in student recruitment.

This role can be undertaken as a single 1.0 post full time or as two 0.6 FTE posts (job share). In the context of a job share, we expect two separate applications to include: your individual details and experiences; naming the other job share person in your application (agreed between you); and detailing how the job share would work strategically and practically.

About you

We expect you’ll have a postgraduate qualification appropriate to Product and Furniture Design, including relevant experience gained through industry/practice or education. Experience of course administration, pedagogic innovation, assessment processes and procedures are essential.  You’ll have a broad approach to Product and Furniture design education and experience of working in interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary practices. We are interested in candidates with Furniture and/or Product Design expertise and a specialism in one or more of the following: inclusive and social design, sustainability, digital / craft practices for materials and manufacturing processes, emerging technologies, biomaterials, design for health and wellbeing or public engagement. Your role will support industry collaborations and live project development.

To inspire students and staff, you must be a leading practitioner educator and familiar with the latest industry developments.  You’ll maintain strong links with design practitioners from a wide range of professions, subjects and disciplines and build collaborative links with a range of institutions and employers.  You’ll have confidence in managing large groups and communicating in a range of learning environments, including teaching in large and small studio and seminar spaces, lecture theatre and online platforms.

In return, University of the Arts London offers generous leave, an attractive pension and a commitment to your continuing personal development and training in an environment that encourages excellence, creativity and diversity. Relocation assistance is available.

Interviews are scheduled to take place on 04/05/2023.
