The opportunity

The MA Visual Effects programme at UAL’s London College of Communication is looking to recruit a specialist lecturer in Visual Effects. This course is part of the Moving Image and Digital Arts programme at London College of Communication.

The lecturer in Visual Effects will work collaboratively within a course team, deploying specialist expertise to develop the curriculum in innovative and critical directions. The post-holder is responsible for teaching, pedagogy, and on-going scholarship of the course and will work with students predominantly in-person, although there will be scope to teach online as and when the curriculum requires.

About you

We are looking for an outstanding teacher, practitioner and/or researcher to join the MA Visual Effects course team.

You should have experience of post graduate education or comparable industry experience, an ability to participate in curriculum development and assessment, a sound knowledge of the theories and practices in Visual Effects, and ideally be able to contribute to the Programme’s research and/ or knowledge exchange profile.

You should be comfortable working with diverse cohorts of students and committed to a teaching approach that integrates theory and practice and will engage students through a combination of innovative pedagogy, knowledge exchange and/or research. You’ll have or should be willing to attain, with UAL’s support, a relevant teaching qualification or recognition. An MA in Visual Effects or associated fields is preferred but not essential if comparable work experience can be evidenced.

Candidates should be a specialist practitioner and/or researcher who is keen to use their academic and/or industry-based experience to support the development of student work.

Candidates should demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of 3D and vfx techniques and workflows using a range of software such as Maya, Houdini, or Unreal Engine. Additionally, proficiency in one or more of the following is a bonus: Blender, ZBrush, Mari or Substance Painter.

You should have a strong understanding of the contemporary context of Visual Effects in an academic and/or professional setting and be engaged in relevant networks and communities of practice within this and/or related fields.

If you have any queries about this role or need any reasonable adjustments for your application, please contact Lesley Wilkins, Resourcing Adviser, lcc.jobs@lcc.arts.ac.uk or telephone: 020 7514 7985
