The opportunity
UAL Retail Operations seeks skilled and experienced Sales Assistants to provide support for students and staff in College art shops.
This role will encompass all the general day to day duties of a sales assistant working inside a busy art shop. The role will include serving customers, replenishing stock, keeping the shop floor tidy, opening and closing the shop. Other responsibilities will include general admin, stock ordering, dealing with suppliers and reconciling the tills.
The role will vary according to customer levels, depending on the time of year, whether it is term time or not.
As a member of the Retail team, you will provide assistance and advice to students, offer professional technical expertise, guidance and knowledge relating to art, design and fashion materials.
This is a varied and dynamic role, and a key part of the job is working as part of a team that deals with enquiries from students and staff relating to a varied art environment. This role will include troubleshooting problems customers are having using different materials or techniques.
You will not only bring key skills with you but will have the opportunity to develop new skills and experience across a wide range of technical workshops in an evolving area.
The role on offer is Term Time only, a 32 week contract, 35 hours per week.
Staff are paid their holiday entitlement, as we do not allow for any time off during the contracted dates except for exceptional circumstances.
About you
We are looking for a creative, self-motivated person who can contribute to the future development of the department and running of the UAL arts shop.
You should have a qualification or equivalent professional/industry experience within the relevant area (ie Art, Design, Fashion), and/or have Retail related experience. You should have a good knowledge of the varied materials and have an interest in the arts. You will need to be efficient, responsible, flexible and hard-working, being able to work on your own and as part of a team.
In return, University of the Arts London offers generous leave, pension scheme and a commitment to your continuing personal development and training in an environment that encourages excellence, creativity and diversity.
