The opportunity

The UAL Creative Computing Institute is seeking to appoint a Professor to play a pivotal role in delivering and developing the research agenda in our creative and interdisciplinary Institute within Europe’s largest provider of creative education. Working closely with the Dean and Senior CCI research staff, the post holder will develop and deliver a credible interdisciplinary and integrated research programme for the Institute and will lead the second of the Institute’s current research themes, which are:

1. Creativity, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence;
2. Human Computer Interaction;
3. Platforms, Big Data and Digital Citizenship.

As a professor, you will also be required to contribute annually to the Institute’s social mission under one of its three pillars of; Digital Inclusion; Diversity in Technology; Digital Entrepreneurship. You will be a present, engaged and active member of the community for both staff and students.

Within UAL, Professors are required to exemplify academic leadership and have a strategic role in the development of the University’s research. Professors will produce research outputs that are internationally excellent and have a record of developing external collaborations of strategic importance. The post-holder will develop their research and practice within the research aims and remit of the University of the Arts, through work in the field of Creative Computing at the UAL Institute for Creative Computing. They will develop and lead research projects and significantly contribute to the academic research profile and activities of the University.

The post-holder will take a leading role in their appointed field of research and evidence involvement at a senior level with relevant professional bodies or learned societies. They will also plan and initiate the writing of external funding bids as either Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator and have a record of acquiring significant external funding. Professors are expected to act as Directors of Study and/or supervisors to research degree students as appropriate to their workload.

About you

You possess excellent communication and organisational skills and have a track record internationally excellent research and are keen to work with others as part of a team and develop more junior colleagues.

You have a progressive vision of computing education that strongly relates to the STEM/Arts context within the CCI. 

You have a track record of publishing in benchmark ACM and other venues in relevant areas and have a range of creative outputs in addition.

You have significant experience of research informed teaching and undergraduate and postgraduate level and you have PhD completions as director of studies or equivalent.
