The opportunity
Imagine adding your skills to the foremost Fashion & Textiles Courses in the world. Working in our building at King’s Cross, you’ll support the learning and development of an exceptionally talented, diverse collection of Fashion Design & Textiles Design students on the Knit pathways of these courses. You will be responsible for the day to day running of the Stoll Knit area within the Knit workshop, including supervising learning activities in the specialist Stoll knit facilities within and outside of timetabled teaching sessions. This role provides a wonderful opportunity to work in the higher education sector, supporting an academic environment with technical skills and knowledge. Adding to the existing technical team, this role provides student facing technical support within the Stoll Knit workshop, supporting academic delivery. Working within the college technical team and alongside academics the role will be instrumental in developing and improving our students’ ability to successfully understand and challenge the world around us. You will be part of a technical team supporting Knit across the learning environment. This will include writing & delivering online & offline inductions, maintaining workshops and specialist equipment, ordering & selling stock, first line Stoll machine maintenance and assisting other technical staff in their duties.
About you
We are looking for a Fashion/Textile knitter with an industry, teaching or technical background, with a sound grasp of Stoll and Dubied Knitting machines and techniques. You will have a good understanding of how a Knit studio operates, with good organisational skills and team working abilities.
Experience of Stoll machine maintenance, excellent problem-solving skills and an interest in domestic and hand knitting would be an asset. You may have higher education experience but more importantly, you will be passionate about the subject and your ability to support the students’ learning experience. We would expect high levels of technical competence and a dedication to personal development in technical areas.
An adherence to Health & Safety safe working practices is essential. You may on occasion be asked to work flexibly within the team to support student deadlines.
UAL is committed to addressing the under-representation of staff from Black and Minority Ethnic communities, using our student profile as a reference point.
