The opportunity

As part of UAL’s new strategy to change the world through creative endeavour we are creating new opportunities to give students the resources they need to flourish in a changing world. We have the most enterprising students and graduates of any university in the UK, and to help shape the specialist infrastructure needed to better support the creative ideas of our students, graduates and staff, we are seeking to appoint a Director of Enterprise and Commercialisation for a two year period to set out the vision and strategy for research/IP commercialisation and new enterprise creation.

As the Director of Enterprise and Commercialisation, you will build on UAL’s significant existing strengths and expertise to develop a world class ecosystem for creative enterprise and research/IP commercialisation within UAL. Working with senior colleagues across the University and key external stakeholders, you will identify the structures, resourcing, partners and priorities necessary to accelerate our work in this area, and enhance our institutional performance. In addition to this, through conducting primary and secondary benchmark research, you will set out evidenced based strategic priorities, policies and models.

You will also liaise with relevant national and global investor networks, as well as  enterprise and innovation-focused businesses, to build effective partnerships in support of the agreed strategic vision and objectives of the new infrastructure, whilst providing subject specialist leadership within the development and securing of any new investment opportunities (grant, philanthropic and venture-based) that may emerge.

About you

You will be an effective and motivating communicator, with detailed working knowledge of the creative and cultural industries as well as Higher Education policy, particularly relating to enterprise, commercialisation and innovation activities. You will have experience of supporting the successful commercialisation of academic research and/or IP in the creative industries, and of providing strategic leadership and management, ideally in a Higher Education or creative industries setting. Demonstrable experience of developing ethical, high-performing entrepreneurial cultures, and a commitment to advancing professional practice in your own area of specialism is also equally important for this role.

If you have any queries about this role or need any reasonable adjustments for your application, please contact Twinkle Brahmbhatt, Senior Resourcing Adviser via email at RKEEstaffrecruitment@arts.ac.uk.
