The opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for an established arts sector practitioner to play a key role in the development and delivery of the Fine Art curriculum at Chelsea College of Arts in the post of Senior Lecturer (maternity cover position).

The post will be teaching into the BA Fine Art course, and may contribute to other Chelsea Art Programme courses which include Graduate Diploma Fine Art, MA Fine Art, and MA Curating and Collections. The Chelsea Art Programme strives for decolonised curricula to promote social inclusion, ethical practices, and sustainable graduate futures.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic staff team within the programme portfolio to deliver teaching of their expertise and the needs of the curriculum. This will include both practical studio and written work. The post-holder will contribute to a curriculum that challenges the cannon of Fine Art with the aim of promoting cultural inclusivity and preparing a diverse student body for sustainable careers in the arts and beyond. The post-holder will contribute to course organisation and effective delivery of exciting student experience.

The role offers a unique opportunity for a candidate who is committed to developing an innovative creative approach to decolonised teaching-learning, and who is keen to promote inclusion and cultural diversity for students looking to develop a deep understanding of contemporary arts practice with an international outlook.

About you

Your established practice in the contemporary arts sector at national or international level will demonstrate your expertise in your specialist area. You’ll have a recognised track record of innovative practice in areas such as (but not limited to) art production, exhibition-making, event organisation, and/or publishing. You’ll have an astute understanding of a broad range of international art practices, histories, and contexts. Your knowledge of contemporary art and theory from non-European regions is desirable.

You’ll have a strong interest in working with emerging artists, and proven experience in designing knowledge or experience sharing activities and have a dynamic and engaging approach to working with others that promotes inclusivity, diversity, and decolonised practices. This will be demonstrated through your previous university teaching experience or related arts practice experience.

You’ll be well-organised, inspirational, have outstanding written and verbal communication skills, and be a confident and engaging public speaker and have excellent professional networks within the UK and/or internationally that you can draw upon as needed. Your proven experience of complex project and schedule management, working within a team, and supporting the needs of others, individually and in large groups, is essential.

The scheduled interview date is week commencing 24/07/23.
