The opportunity

If you are an experienced Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) professional looking to take the next step in your career, this exciting role presents an excellent opportunity to make a significant impact leading and contributing to EDI initiatives, projects and policy work at a world leading university.

At UAL, our dedicated EDI team develops and influences strategy and policy, and provides high quality information, advice and guidance on all staff and students’ equality, diversity and inclusion matters. The team works closely with our Diversity Champions and Executive Board for Equality Diversity and Inclusion who represent both academic and professional service staff.

Working closely with the Head of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, as the EDI Manger, you will be responsible for specific project work that further promotes and progresses the work on UAL’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion agenda.

You will take the lead on advising the University’s colleges and professional services on Equality Impact Assessments of policies/procedures/decisions, on a proactive basis and act as the first point of contact for queries and information relating to the Race Equality Charter.
You will also assist in formulating policies, procedures and practical guidelines and ensuring that the University is able to learn from good practice, evaluate risk, anticipate change and maximise opportunities. The role also has line management responsibility.

About you

Educated to degree level or with equivalent qualification or quantifiable experience, you will have substantial experience working in an EDI role in a busy department, preferably in an academic environment.

You will have demonstrable advanced knowledge of E&D, involving a critical understanding of relevant theory and principles. It is imperative that you can communicate, build and maintain excellent working relationships with a diverse range of people at all levels, both within and outside the University.

Experience of working effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team, the ability to empathise with staff and use tact, discretion and diplomacy, and appreciation of different cultures are pre-requisites for this role.

If you have any queries about this role or need any reasonable adjustments for your application, please contact Zele Akhilele, Resourcing Adviser via email at Peoplestaffrecruitment@arts.ac.uk.
