The opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, hard-working and experienced health professional to join the Counselling and Health Advice Service.
You will work closely with your manager and colleagues to offer assessment, advice and support to students with physical health and wellbeing concerns , so they can engage successfully with their studies and University life. You will provide advice and consultation to academic and support staff in colleges and halls of residences to respond to crises, manage risk concerns and support students to manage emerging and enduring physical health concerns. You will participate in activities to develop the service, to deliver training and to promote awareness of physical health and well-being.
You will be based at up to two college sites and there may be some flexibility to work from home for part of your working week. There may be a requirement to work one evening a week up to 7pm.
About you
You will be an experienced nurse with an understanding of students’ needs, have experience of working in a multidisciplinary team in a community/primary care setting and enjoy collaborating and problem-solving.
You will have a degree, a professional qualification in nursing (e.g. BSc Adult Nursing, BNurs, Registered Adult Nurse) and professional experience of working with a range of physical health issues.
Your experience will include:-
- a strong track record of responding proactively to health issues, including communicable diseases
- experience of working with nutrition and disordered eating would be desirable.
- knowledge and experience of signposting, making referrals and assisting individuals to access specialist physical health services
- providing interventions to alleviate physical health symptoms and to promote health and well-being,
- conducting assessments and appointments online and in person,
- managing casework;
- developing and delivering training;
- implementing preventative work to promote health, wellbeing and resilience,
You will have excellent communication skills, a flexible approach to work, and the ability to contain anxiety in yourself and others.
Appointment to this role will be subject to a Enhanced criminal record check from the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed. Having a criminal record will not necessarily bar you from employment. This will depend on the circumstances and background to your offence(s).
