The opportunity

Associate Lecturer in Computer Animation and Visual Effects

We are seeking an associate lecturer to teach into the 1st year of the BA Computer Animation and Visual Effects course. This course will be exploring the vast subject of digital moving image creation and will be covering a wide range of subjects relating to computer animation and visual effects, including photography, 2D & 3D design, 3D character animation, compositing, mixed media, and related subjects. We are interested in hearing from those who may have a breadth of knowledge across multiple relevant areas.

The role

Your main responsibility will be designing and delivering content to university students and providing group and one-to-one support. You will make a significant contribution to the quality of learning and support our students to enable them to complete their studies successfully. You will provide course level subject-specialist expertise in creative practice and digital pedagogy; all teaching is onsite in our Elephant and Castle campus.

Essential Skills:

  • Good communication and willingness to present to a group of students
  • Organisation skills and ability to plan and deliver teaching content

Desirable Skills (proficiency in at least one of these skills is desirable):

  • A working knowledge of Nuke, including clean up and wire removal techniques, 2D and 3D tracking, keying workflows, greenscreen compositing, projections, and more
  • Knowledges of cameras, lenses and filming
  • Knowledge of Autodesk Maya – In particular lighting and rendering for compositing
  • Knowledge of Unreal Engine, Houdini, ZBrush, Blender
  • Experience in real-time graphics
  • Experience in 3D Printing & Modelling
  • Knowledge of Adobe programs (Photoshop, After Effects, In-Design, Illustrator)

This is an hourly paid lecturer role – your schedule will be term time only and will vary throughout the year.

You will work closely with other academic staff, including the pathway leaders and the course leader.

About you

The ideal candidate will ideally have teaching experience in Higher Education or similar and/or working in a relevant field. You will take a dynamic and innovative approach to supporting excellent teaching, pedagogy and inclusivity. You will have a good knowledge of compositing workflows ideally with industry experience. You will have an awareness of the global social, cultural, environmental, political and economic issues that are transforming moving image practices.

PG Cert teaching qualification is desirable or equivalent experience.
