The opportunity

We are looking for a lecturer in live sound, to deliver a unit called ‘Audio Principles for Live Sound’. This is a 2nd year unit on the BA Music production. The role will involve the preparation, teaching, administration, and assessment of this unit, working alongside the course leader and the programme director. ‘Audio Principles for Live Sound’ aims to develop student’s knowledge of mixing and microphone placement and help them to apply this knowledge to live music scenarios. It shall combine both theoretical and practical classes relating to live sound. Indicative content may include: Acoustics for live sound; Sonic soundscapes; Live sound system design; Dispersion and speaker arrays; Impulse response; Setting up a live sound system; Microphone Application and Techniques; Techniques involved in live sound production; Networked audio; Experience of live sound production in a professional setting.

In taking up this post, you will make a significant contribution to the quality of learning and support our students receive in order to enable them to successfully complete their studies.

You will work closely with other academic staff, including the Programme Director and Course Leader.

For the coming academic year, the Audio Principles for Live Sound module shall involve 30 hours of teaching, alongside preparation, teaching, administration and assessment for the unit.

About you

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Live Sound lecturer to join the Music Production team. In this role, you will build upon students’ existing knowledge of mixing and microphone placement, guiding them in applying these skills effectively in live music scenarios. Through theoretical concepts such as networked audio, dispersion, and speaker arrays, as well as practical sessions in a live venue, students will gain hands-on experience and explore the practical application of live sound techniques. We are looking for a knowledgeable professional with expertise in live sound production, a commitment to teaching, and a desire to shape the future of young music producers.
