The opportunity

The Design School is looking to recruit a Lecturer for the MA Design Management course.

This is a practice-led course structured around collaborative project work and discussion, which seeks to develop and foster critical creative practice and design leadership thinking in the field of design management. This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate with a highly creative approach to teaching and project supervision focused on enriching the student experience. The position invites applicants interested in the intersection between design research, strategic design and social design.

As a lecturer you will be responsible to the Course Leader for the delivery of the strategic design and design research units on the course, focusing on the relationship between design theory and practice. You will bring research and/or industry and teaching experience at the postgraduate level. You will manage and participate in the delivery of student-centred and inclusive teaching and contribute to course development, assessment, quality management and student recruitment.

About you

We are looking for an individual with a qualification at the undergraduate or postgraduate level relevant to strategic design. You will have knowledge of delivering creative projects in a professional environment and experience in a range of specialist skills in strategic design, business modelling, user experience design and social design. You will also have comprehensive knowledge of learning and teaching international students and decolonising design.

As an academic, previous teaching experience at the postgraduate level is essential in addition to the experience of research and/or professional practice in strategic design or equivalent design practice. You will also be able to cite examples of the design management industry’s future trajectory and engagement with a decolonising critique of design. You should also demonstrate insight into design practices as they intersect with social justice, the climate crisis and other global social, cultural, environmental, political and economic forces that are transforming the design discipline.

The successful candidate should possess effective interpersonal skills and be a student-centred teacher focused on promoting diversity and inclusivity while demonstrating strong communication and organisational skills. We are looking for applicants who can work collaboratively with colleagues to develop the subject area and share expertise.

If you have any queries about this role or need any reasonable adjustments for your application, please contact Lesley Wilkins, Senior Resourcing Adviser, lcc.jobs@lcc.arts.ac.uk or telephone: 020 7514 7985
