The opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to join our technical team, leading the Media cluster. With Video, Animation, Sound, Performance and digital technology constantly evolving at a rapid speed, we work at the cutting edge of new thinking and developments to prepare our students for successful careers in the creative industries of the future. The Media technical resource will provide film & video, sound, animation, multimedia performance and technical production support to students from a broad range of subject areas that can include, Fine Art, Performance Screen, Character Animation, Graphic and Communication Design, Fashion, Performance Design, Spatial Practices, external events and visiting companies.

Strong technical operational delivery is important. But what will make the difference is how you work with people and balance the needs of the academic programmes with technical resources available, forging collaborative relationships between academic and technical colleagues to ensure the best possible student experience. A solid technical background will be crucial as will experience of managing shared technical resources such as Film & Video studio production hardware, health and safety, technical inductions.

You will provide specialist technical coordination responsible for the Media technical cluster including team line management of Specialist and Support Technicians. You will oversee and lead on the delivery of workshops, contribute expertise and coordinate technical support for sound, camera, animation and performance capture related subjects. You will play an integral part of the technical team, contributing your experience in digital camera work, lighting, grip, sound, and the latest emerging and digital technologies. Your role will encompass professional applied experience in post-production, video projection and multimedia arts. You will also have the opportunity to develop new skills and experience across a wide range of technical workshops.

Your role will encompass communicating with stakeholders, acting as a lead point of contact for Media technical support, and ensuring access to up-to-date and accurate information for students, academics, fellow technicians and other university staff.

About you

We are looking for an experienced, adaptable, dynamic, self-motivated person. Ideally a creative individual with a passion for video, cinematography, animation, sound technologies and multimedia performance, who will relish the challenge of supporting a diverse range of talented and renowned academics.

We need someone who is a good communicator, able to explain complex information clearly, and with experience of leading technical and operational delivery gained through working in creative industries and/or higher education. You should have a strong holistic knowledge of creative video, multimedia and animation production and enthusiastic about imparting that knowledge to students, meeting the evolving challenge of multimedia, film, video, animation and performance content production in screen, installation and live performance contexts.

You will have an holistic knowledge of techniques used for video and sound production for filmmaking and performance making practices, including software and hardware operations, microphone techniques, lighting, audio & video editing and post-production. You will be proficient in some of the relevant Adobe software (Premiere/AfterEffects/Audition), Logic Pro, Da Vinci Resolve, Dragonframe, or equivalents.
