The opportunity

As part of an AHRC funded project on “Transforming the Gap: Inclusive Digital Arts and Humanities Research Skills (DAReS), we are offering an exciting opportunity to participate in an important research project to co-design an inclusive data and digital research skills curriculum for a national or regional pilot. 

We are recruiting 30 paid co-designers for 7 days of participation between June 2023 and January 2024, who will work with us to understand what inclusion means for under-represented and marginalised groups in both arts and humanities research and digital research skills, including: data wrangling, social analytics, data visualisation, social network analysis, and computational analysis.  

Drawing from widely recognised diversity gaps in the arts and humanities, higher education, and digital research skills sectors, this project aims to work with people who have experience with arts and humanities research and one or more of the following groups: Black, Asian, ethnic and/or national minorities, those with disabilities and/or neurodiversities, and/or the LGBTQIA+ community.  

The project takes diversity and inclusion as preconditions for better innovation, higher quality research outcomes, and as such, aims to develop and apply an inclusive, arts and humanities specific approach to an exciting digital research skills curriculum. The outcome of this project is a co-designed inclusive digital skills curriculum which fosters collaborative learning and can be taken up as a scalable national or regional pilot.

No experience with data, digital skills is required, however, an interest in these for existing or new research projects is helpful. No experience with co-design is required.

We are keen to attract a diverse applicant pool, and particularly welcome applications from under-represented groups such as Black, Asian, ethnic, and/or national minorities, women, those with disabilities and/or neurodiversities, and/or those in the LGBTQIA+ community. We also welcome applications from people who live all over the United Kingdom and we are able to cover reasonable travel expenses.  

About you

The ideal candidate will have experience as an arts and humanities researcher, at any career stage, as well as longer term goals to develop data and digital research skills for existing or new research projects. You will be passionate about inclusion and diversity and keen to take an active role in collaboratively developing an inclusive approach to a digital research skills data school, where you will participate as a collaborative learner. You will also be able to articulate feedback for evaluation sessions, focusing on your experience in the project. You will be keen to collaborate with others and be committed to developing your own research skills and research innovations in the arts and humanities.

To qualify as a co-designer, you:

  1. Must have the right to work in the UK
  2. Be an active researcher in the arts and humanities* at any career stage.
  3. Identify as or have experience with under-represented groups in arts and humanities and/or digital research skills.
  4. Be available on the following dates:
  • For one inclusion workshop on June 16, 23 OR 30 (2023)
  • For the data school (On October 12, 13, 26, 27, Nov 9, and/or 10, 2023)
  • For the Hackathon (Jan 26, 2024)
