The opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for an established practitioner with international profile to lead and shape the development of the Graduate Diploma Fine Art course at Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London.

Graduate Diploma Fine Art is an intensive one year course aimed to facilitate learners from diverse backgrounds develop their practices within advanced fine arts contexts. The majority of students hold a UK BA in a subject other than fine art, or an international BA in fine art or other subject, or equivalent experience. The course is holistically focused on studio, theory and professional development. Upon completion of the Graduate Diploma course, students confidently progress to MA level fine art study or pursue a career within the field of fine art.  

The Graduate Diploma Fine Art Course Leader is responsible for the academic leadership and management of the Course, including the maintenance and enhancement of standards and responsibility for the design, development and delivery of the curriculum.  They will oversee the day to day management of the Course including all areas of learning, teaching and assessment of students, resource allocation, and networking.

The role offers a unique opportunity for a candidate who is committed to developing an innovative creative approach to decolonised teaching-learning, and who is keen to promote inclusion and cultural diversity for students looking to develop a deep understanding of contemporary arts practice with an international outlook.

About you

You will have an internationally recognised track record of innovative practice within the contemporary arts sector. You will have extensive experience of arts production, exhibition-making, and/or publishing, and have a strong interest in decolonised perspectives. Your knowledge of current theoretical debates will be significant; as will your ability to employ your global networks.

You will have a strong interest in working with emerging artists, and proven experience in designing and delivering curricula aimed to foster professional outcomes and sustainable careers. You will have a dynamic and engaging approach to working with others that promotes inclusive and diverse practices. This will be demonstrated through your previous university teaching experience or related professional experience.

You will be well-organised, inspirational, have outstanding written and verbal communication skills, and be a confident and engaging public speaker.  Your proven experience of generating partnerships, building and leading a team, and supporting the needs of others, individually and in large groups, is essential.
