The opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for an established curator with international profile to lead and shape the development of the MA Curating and Collections course at Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London. MA Curating and Collections is an intensive 15 month course giving students hands-on experience of organising exhibitions and developing curatorial projects in both analogue and digital contexts. Students work alongside curators, researchers, and artworld professionals, learning how to handle and communicate art and design objects. The course has strong links to Chelsea Space Gallery and UAL Research networks, and regularly forges external partnerships and collaborations to support student’s development towards their graduate futures. The MA Curating and Collections Course Leader is responsible for the academic leadership and management of the Course, including the maintenance and enhancement of standards and responsibility for the design, development and delivery of the curriculum. They will oversee the day to day management of the Course including all areas of learning, teaching and assessment of students, resource allocation, and networking. The role offers a unique opportunity for a candidate who is committed to developing an innovative creative approach to decolonised teaching-learning, and who is keen to promote inclusion and cultural diversity for students looking to develop a deep understanding of contemporary curatorial practice with an international outlook.
About you
You will have an internationally recognised track record of innovative curatorial practice within the contemporary arts sector. You will have extensive experience in exhibition-making, working with collections, curating in the digital realm, and have a strong interest in decolonised perspectives. Your knowledge of current theoretical debates will be significant; as will be your ability to deploy your global networks.
You will have a strong interest in working with emerging curators, and proven experience in designing and delivering curricula aimed to foster professional outcomes and sustainable careers. You will have a dynamic and engaging approach to working with others that promotes inclusive and diverse practices. This will be demonstrated through your previous university teaching experience or related professional experience.
You will be well-organised, inspirational, have outstanding written and verbal communication skills, and be a confident and engaging public speaker. Your proven experience of generating partnerships, building and leading a team, and supporting the needs of others, individually and in large groups, is essential.
