The opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced academic to help shape the future of costume design and creative education at Camberwell, Chelsea and Wimbledon Colleges of Arts, University of the Arts London.

As Subject Leader for MA Costume, you’ll provide academic leadership for the MA Costume pathway, ensuring the highest standards of teaching, learning and student experience. You’ll lead the strategic development, design and delivery of an innovative curriculum that combines critical research with creative practice, while overseeing the day-to-day management of the course in line with University and College policies and procedures.

MA Costume embraces historical knowledge as a foundation for future-facing practice. The course enables students to develop advanced research methods alongside the practical realisation of costume design, equipping graduates to engage critically with social, environmental and cultural justice in contemporary costume practice and the wider creative industries.

Through your leadership, students will gain the creative, technical and professional skills required to succeed in costume design and making across a range of creative industries, preparing them for sustainable and innovative careers.

Your profile

You’ll hold a degree or higher qualification in costume or a closely related discipline and demonstrate professional-level costume making expertise. You’ll have substantial experience of course leadership, curriculum management, teaching and assessment within higher education, together with an established reputation in costume through research and/or professional practice.

You’ll also bring excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills, enabling you to lead effectively, collaborate with colleagues and external partners, and contribute to the continued success and reputation of the MA Costume programme.
