The opportunity

UAL Awarding Body is seeking to recruit a number of External Moderators within Creative Media,  Extended Project Qualification, Art and Design and Performing and Production Arts in order to consolidate our quality assurance specialism in this area. UAL Awarding Body designs and awards qualifications in creative subjects from Levels 1 to 4, across over 200 FE Colleges and 6th Forms.

Our External Moderators monitor and quality assure the assessment decisions made by approved centres for specific qualifications across all academic levels. With detailed subject-specific knowledge and assessment expertise, they are responsible for carrying out virtual external moderation (sampling) activity, monitoring the quality and consistency of assessment decisions within and across approved centres, and confirming whether the award of UAL qualifications is justified and can be endorsed. External Moderators assist UAL with complying with the Ofqual General Conditions of Recognition.

External Moderators are a core member of the Academic Standards team and act as a key link between the UAL Awarding Body, the Senior External Moderators, and its approved centres. As such they are expected to maintain the highest professional standards, always promoting the UAL Awarding Body’s brand and ethos. They are required to manage confidential information with integrity and work effectively with staff at all levels both internally at UAL Awarding Body and externally at approved centres. The external moderation activity takes place between May and July and may require occasional travel within the UK if meetings are face to face.

Your profile

As an External Moderator you will have appropriate qualifications within the relevant subject specialism and be educated to at least degree level.

You will be an experienced teacher and internal verifier with a working knowledge of UAL Awarding Body qualifications within the creative arts at levels 1-4.

You will have current knowledge and or experience within the creative arts sector and a sound understanding of assessment, verification and moderation systems and procedures within the Further Education sector.

We work with students at every level from pre-degree and short courses to postgraduate and online learning, enabling them to build the careers they want. Together, we are a community of makers, thinkers, pioneers and storytellers redesigning the future.

As a University, we are ranked second in the world for Art and Design.
