The opportunity
Are you a skilled fire safety professional with experience in fire risk management, fire safety compliance, and building safety? University of the Arts London (UAL), is seeking a forward-thinking Senior Fire Safety Advisor - Technical &Training to join us as the University’s deputy competent lead adviser for fire safety.
In this key role, you will ensure the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and visitors across the college’s estate, including academic and administrative buildings, student accommodation, retail and catering outlets, and digital infrastructure.
Working closely with the Health and Safety and Estates teams, you will lead fire safety operations, implementing and maintaining the University’s Fire Safety Management System and Fire Strategy. You will provide expert technical advice on capital projects, deliver fire safety training for staff and students, support the fire risk assessment programme, and ensure compliance with all relevant fire and building safety legislation. You will also contribute to emergency planning and the development of personal and general emergency evacuation plans, helping to create environments that are safe, welcoming, and fully compliant across the University estate.
This is a unique opportunity to shape fire safety strategy, training, and technical practice across one of the world’s most renowned creative universities, making a real impact on the safety and well-being of our vibrant community.
Your profile
You will be an established fire safety professional, holding a recognised qualification in fire risk assessment (NEBOSH Fire or Level 3 Certificate in Fire Risk Assessment or higher) and membership of a relevant professional body.
With deep knowledge of current fire legislation, including the Fire Safety Act 2021, Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022, and the Building Safety Act 2022, you bring strong technical expertise across passive and active fire safety systems and a commitment to best practice and compliance.
You are a confident and influential communicator who can build trusted relationships, advise senior colleagues and external authorities, and convey complex technical requirements in a clear, inclusive, and practical way.
Experience in managing fire safety across a multi-site organisation is desirable, and your collaborative, resilient, and strategic approach will help ensure the safety of everyone who learns, works, and visits our sites at UAL.
