The opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced academic to help shape the future of comedy writing and performance education at Wimbledon College of Arts, University of the Arts London. If you’re able to write a joke that makes people laugh, then this stage is yours. If you’re able to encourage others to do the same, then even better.

As Subject Leader MA Comedy, you’ll be responsible for the academic leadership and management of the subject area. This will involve maintaining and enhancing academic standards, as well as overseeing the design, development and delivery of the curriculum. You’ll manage the day-to-day running of the subject area, covering all areas of teaching, learning and student assessment, in addition to managing allocated resources.

You’ll provide an overarching vision for the subject area, setting the strategic direction for its development, ensuring that all University and College policies and procedures are implemented and observed. You’ll also ensure that the curriculum remains relevant and up to date, aligning with the mission of the Programme, the vision for the Comedy pathway, and the evolving learning needs and development stages of our students.

Your work will be key to ensuring that students develop the skills they need to create and perform their own innovative comedic work, preparing the next generation of comedy writers and performers for careers in the performing arts.

Your profile

You’ll need a BA qualification or above in a subject related to MA Comedy, such as writing, performing and/or producing (or equivalent professional experience). Experience of course leadership, teaching and assessment within higher education is essential.

You’ll also demonstrate a track record of research, teaching, knowledge exchange and/or professional practice that advances the field of Comedy, whether in writing, performing or producing, and aligns with the goals of the Programme, College and University. Applicants should demonstrate expertise, enthusiasm and at least one good joke.

Strong communication, problem-solving and organisational skills are also essential for success in this role.
