The opportunity

Are you a skilled practitioner with excellent knowledge of textiles? University of the Arts London School of Pre-Degree Studies is looking for a Specialist Technician to play a key role in the smooth running of our textiles workshops.

This is a hands-on, technical role that draws on your expertise to provide guidance and advice to students working in our workshops. As a Specialist Technician, you will play a vital part in supporting students to explore and develop their practice, helping them to identify and learn appropriate knit, weave and surface pattern techniques and processes while making effective use of materials, resources and equipment.

You will engage directly with technical teaching, sharing your expertise to enrich the student experience and contributing to the planning, development and delivery of creative learning activities. Working closely with students, you will provide the support they need to achieve their learning outcomes, equipping them with the practical insight they need for future careers in the creative industries.

Alongside this, you will take responsibility for ensuring that our workshops remain safe, well-stocked and equipped to meet the needs of our community of students, staff and researchers. By combining your technical insight with a passion for textiles, you will play an essential role in shaping an environment that inspires creativity, exploration and innovation.

Your profile

You will need a degree-level qualification in Art, Design or Performance, or equivalent industry experience that demonstrates the depth of technical expertise required.

Strong knowledge of textiles stitch, knit, weave and associated processes is essential, alongside the ability to work confidently with a wide range of materials, resources and equipment.

Excellent teamwork, communication and organisational skills are key, as is the ability to build positive, supportive relationships with students and staff alike.
