The opportunity

The BA Fine Art course at Chelsea is a practical events-based curriculum that hosts a very large, international, and diverse student cohort. Students learn through engagement with a series of exhibition opportunities, workshops, seminars and tutorial support.

As a Senior Lecturer you will be responsible for on-going teaching, scholarship, curriculum development and related academic administration.

As a Senior Lecturer you will bring experience as a recognised authority in the contemporary art subject area; as evidenced through a track record of professional practice within the artworld at international level, with specific expertise in:
• Artistic practice, preferably grounded in digital and emerging technologies
• Event production, exhibition making, and/or curatorial practice
• Practice-based art writing that does not adhere to formal academic conventions

As a Senior Lecturer you will lead a tutor group, teaching both practice and writing via workshops, seminars, lectures and tutorials as required, and providing effective pastoral guidance where necessary.

You will develop professionally-purposed pedagogy and enhance the BA curriculum in innovative directions, drawing on your experience and networks to prepare students for ambitious graduate futures within culture sectors in the UK and globally.

Your profile

Your established practice in the contemporary art sector at international level will demonstrate your expertise in your specialist area.

You will have a recognised track record of innovative art practice (preferably grounded in digital and emerging technologies), artists' writing and exhibition/event production.

You will have an astute understanding of a broad range of international art practices, histories, contexts, and graduate destinations. Your knowledge of contemporary art and contexts from non-European regions is desirable.

You will have a proven track record of teaching in the HE sector, and experience of working with substantial and culturally diverse cohorts. You will have a dynamic and engaging approach to working with others that promotes inclusivity, initiative, and professionalism.

You will be well-organised, inspirational, have outstanding written and verbal communication skills, and be a confident and engaging public speaker. You will have excellent professional networks within the UK and internationally that you can draw upon as needed. Your proven experience of complex project and schedule management, working within a team, and supporting the needs of others, individually and in large groups, is essential.

Interviews will take place on 1 September 2025.

Should you have any questions about the role, please contact Ben Fitton, Course Leader BA Fine Art / b.fitton@chelsea.arts.ac.uk.

Should you have any questions about the application process or require reasonable adjustments for your application, please contact Christine Crouch, Resourcing Advisor / jobs.ccw@arts.ac.uk.
