The opportunity
An incredible opportunity for an experienced leader in Marketing and Student Recruitment to join the Executive team and support the continued success of one of the UK’s most prestigious and globally renowned arts universities.
Following the recent appointment of our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Karen Stanton, we seek to appoint a Chief Marketing and Student Recruitment Officer to join the Executive team. This is a new Chief Officer role. You will be a key member of the Executive Board, supporting our Vice-Chancellor and working collaboratively across the University, developing a commercial delivery model focusing on national and international student recruitment and growth in innovative strategic partnerships with industry and the sector.
With responsibility for marketing, and working closely with the brand function in the Communications Department, you will ensure UAL is a destination of choice for students and recognised as a world leading institution both within the sector and within the creative industry, ensuring all our activity is in line with our UAL strategy and mission, and enhancing UAL’s reputation as well as student applications and enrolments.
The role will also look at commercial opportunities, generating ideas for growing market share, revenue generation and diversification, and business development and impact, and lead the creation of a Business Development Strategy for the University.
The University of the Arts London is ranked second in the world for Art and Design in the 2025 QS World University Rankings. We welcome a diverse body of over 18,000 students from more than 130 countries. Established in 2004, UAL brings together six eminent colleges at the cutting edge of art, design and technology.
Your profile
You will have a track record of successful leadership working in a senior executive role, with extensive leadership, management and experience in a Higher Education student recruitment, marketing and admissions setting. As a senior professional with strong business and commercial awareness and experience, you will have a sophisticated understanding of Higher Education policy and development and be recognised as an authority in your area or profession.
You will be able to demonstrate how you align to UAL’s values and will possess exceptional communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to represent the University with a wide range of stakeholders. You will be a champion of equality, diversity and inclusion, and you will be able to demonstrate your commitment to creating a University where we can all be ourselves and reach our full potential. You will demonstrate exemplary judgement and commercial insight, bringing a strong sense of integrity as well as energy and innovation.
If you have any queries about this role or need any reasonable adjustments for your application, please email Karen Gooday, Director of People and Culture, at: K.Gooday@arts.ac.uk
