The opportunity
The Sound and Music Programme at London College of Communication is looking to recruit a Course Leader (0.6FTE) to provide academic leadership and management of the MA Sound Arts. As one of our longest-running courses, the MA Sound Arts is designed to support students wanting to further develop their conceptual and contextual understanding of practice and discourse relating to the field of Sound Arts. The MA Sound Arts is a taught course in which students are engaged in both practical and theoretical work and this position offers an opportunity for you to help develop their creative and critical skills so that they might pursue their personal interests in the field.
The MA Sound Arts is currently delivered over a 15-month period. It is about to transition to a 12-month delivery, and the post-holder will help to re-design the existing course to fit this new delivery model. This is an exciting opportunity for the successful applicant to tailor the course to their own vision of sound arts at LCC. The successful applicant will be involved in all areas of learning, teaching and assessment, ensure appropriate resourcing, and manage the day-to-day delivery of the course. As a key member of our teaching staff, you will be responsible for in-person teaching, assessment, curriculum development, and ongoing scholarship in the field of Sound Arts. You will work alongside colleagues that teach on the MA Sound Arts and those across the Sound and Music Programme, which has specialisms in Sound Arts, Music Production, and Music Management and be responsible for observing and implementing the policies and procedures of the College and the University.
Your profile
You will be an experienced academic in the broad area of sound arts, and be able to design and deliver an effective and relevant curriculum in this area. You will have a postgraduate qualification in the area with evidence of recent research outputs and an awareness of scholarly developments in the field. You will have the ability to lead and manage a teaching team in the subject area, and be able to design and implement a vision for sound arts at the University of the Arts.
Your leadership of the course will cover many areas including curriculum design, assessment and feedback, recruitment and admissions, course monitoring and student satisfaction, advertising and updating the course website, modifications to the course handbook, among others. You will work closely with the existing teaching team, the Programme Director (who will line manage the post), and will need to develop effective working relationships with the administrative and technical teams, and the wider school and college staff. You will have a commitment to inclusivity, and use the position advance an equitable, inclusive, and sustainable vision for the MA Sound Arts.
If you have any queries about this role or need any reasonable adjustments for your application, please contact Lesley Wilkins, Senior Resourcing Adviser, lcc.jobs@lcc.arts.ac.uk
