The opportunity

The Screen School at London College of Communication is looking to recruit a Course Leader for our MA Film course. https://www.arts.ac.uk/subjects/animation-interactive-film-and-sound/postgraduate/ma-film-lcc

 

MA Film is a distinct course within the Film and Television programme portfolio, which includes MA Screenwriting, MA Documentary Film and MA Television, and three undergraduate courses.

 

Our MA Film course is a highly vocational and hands-on course that that focuses on the creative, technical and practical aspects of film production. Investigation and research about their role and specialism underscores the practice of narrative storytelling for drama and students learn the filmmaking process, from script development through to post-production. The course encourages students to create distinct and original work. The teaching model advocates industry practices with creativity, teamwork and sustainability at the core of a curriculum. The course aims to prepare students to succeed in their careers as skilled film practitioners for contemporary film production.

 

The successful candidate for this role will be responsible for leading the course into a new UAL postgraduate framework during reapproval, the ongoing development, delivery, assessment, quality, student recruitment and line management of their staff. They will participate in teaching. The appointed candidate will primarily work under the direction of the Programme Director of Film and Television, alongside Course Leaders, and will contribute to initiatives within the School, College, and University, including research activities.

Your profile

You are a film practitioner with the academic experience to lead and deliver a practical, postgraduate filmmaking course. 

 

Your film practitioner role and knowledge should be in fiction, preferably with some experience in short-form drama. You will have story development, filming and postproduction experience, preferably with both studio and location-based productions.

 

You will have experience in teaching and mentoring students to learn the filmmaking process, from concept through to completion. You can encourage innovative approaches to narrative storytelling for drama productions and have an ability to offer positive critique throughout the process.

 

As an academic course leader, you have knowledge and experience of developing a postgraduate curriculum that combines industry-standard practices with a focus on creativity and teamwork. You have experience of working with academics, craft specialists, the technical and administrative teams to deliver a filmmaking curriculum.


You have demonstrated an ability to teach and motivate a diverse student population to think creatively and critically and guide them to further research or professional careers. 

 

You can promote relationships with professional organizations to provide students with access to networking and collaborative opportunities for research and employability liaisons.

 

The successful candidate will deliver the current MA Film curriculum for 25/26 and 26/27 while developing MA Film’s proposal for the new UAL postgraduate framework, lead on the course reapproval and implement delivery in LCC’s new building for 27/28. The successful postholder will participate in teaching and is responsible for ongoing development, delivery, assessment, quality, student recruitment and line management of their staff. The appointed candidate will primarily work under the direction of the Programme Director of Film and Television, alongside Course Leaders, and will contribute to initiatives within the School, College, and University, including research activities.
