The opportunity

Are you an experienced leader with a strong background in English Language Teaching and EAP management?

We have reshaped our English Language Centre to ensure the provision of an integrated and relational suite of language development programme delivery and a quality assurance and enhancement governance framework. This is an exciting opportunity to take on the role of Head of the English Language Centre and lead its strategic management and academic provision.

As the Head of the English Language Centre, you will be responsible for the strategic management and academic development of the Centre. This includes overseeing language development, language assessment, and setting language level requirements across the University. You will play a key role in reviewing and enhancing the Centre’s offerings, driving improvements in student retention, attainment, and overall student experience.

The role will also include managing and guiding a team of language development and assessment professionals, ensuring that high academic standards are maintained and that quality assurance processes are rigorously followed. You will also serve as the main point of contact for external accreditation bodies and key internal stakeholders, representing the English Language Centre in curriculum developments, validations, and academic reviews.

Additionally, this role provides the opportunity to foster a thriving community of practice for language teaching staff, while promoting a culture of continuous improvement and peer support across the Centre.

Your profile

We are looking for an experienced practitioner who holds a relevant postgraduate qualification and professional certification in English Language Teaching (ELT) and linguistics. You should have significant experience in ELT/EAP management, including knowledge of the BALEAP accreditation scheme. A deep understanding of current trends in ELT, EAP, and the higher education sector, coupled with insights into teaching and learning initiatives, student support, and retention and progression strategies, is essential.

Your excellent communication skills will allow you to effectively convey complex technical information to a diverse audience, and your strong advocacy skills will enable you to influence and lead in various academic and institutional settings.
