The opportunity
Wimbledon College of Arts is looking for an experienced academic to teach on our BA Costume for Theatre and Screen course on a fixed-term basis.
Based in the School of Performance, this course introduces students to professional costume for theatre, film, television and live performance and offers teaching across two specialist disciplines: Costume Design and Costume Interpretation. We aim to prepare our students for a broad, developing and ever-changing costume industry and you’ll be key to ensuring that students are equipped with the necessary skills and expertise to succeed.
As an Interim Lecturer, you’ll be responsible for teaching, curriculum development, and on-going scholarship in the area of Costume Construction and Interpretation. Utilising your specialist expertise, you’ll work closely with the Course Leader to develop pedagogy and the curriculum in innovative and critical directions, stimulating thought and practice that challenges the canon of this subject area.
In addition to your teaching responsibilities, you’ll also provide academic and pastoral support to students, monitoring progress and attendance, and maintaining appropriate records.
Your profile
You’ll need experience of teaching and assessment in a Higher Education environment or equivalent industry experience in Costume Construction/Interpretation.
You’ll possess a strong academic background with an undergraduate degree (or equivalent experience) in Costume Construction/Interpretation. A higher degree in a relevant subject (Master’s or PhD), a teaching qualification (PGCert or equivalent) and/or Fellowship of the Advance Higher Education Academy (Advance HE), is desirable but not essential.
Along with your strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills, you’ll also be an excellent team player who is capable of working with different professional groups.
Closing date: 14/02/2025 at 1pm
The scheduled interview date is 24/02/2025 at Wimbledon College of Arts.
