The opportunity

Are you passionate about sustainable travel and biodiversity? Do you want to contribute to transformative change at a university committed to achieving Net Zero by 2040? University of the Arts London (UAL) is seeking a Sustainable Infrastructure Officer to play a pivotal role in delivering transport and biodiversity initiatives across our diverse estate.

UAL is in an exciting phase of its sustainability journey, developing a bold strategy to achieve Net Zero across our entire carbon footprint. Significant progress has been made, but we are determined to do more, and you can be at the heart of this critical work.

As part of a growing team dedicated to sustainability, you’ll work within the Estates department and will be a key player in implementing impactful green initiatives that promote low-carbon travel and enhance biodiversity across UAL’s estate. Your key responsibilities will include:

Sustainable Transport Planning

  • Supporting in the development and implementation of comprehensive travel and transport plans for all UAL sites.
  • Establishing technical standards and policies for transport facilities and services, such as cycle parking, car parks, and bus services.
  • Collecting and analysing data on deliveries across UAL’s sites and creating consolidated delivery plans to enhance efficiency.

Biodiversity Enhancement

  • Supporting with the creation and implementation of a biodiversity strategy for UAL’s estate.
  • Identifying biodiversity projects and developing measurable metrics for improvements, well-being benefits, and associated costs.
  • Assessing indirect biodiversity impacts, such as those arising from supply chains, and design actionable plans to mitigate these effects.

Your profile

We are looking for a motivated professional who can combine technical expertise with a passion for sustainability. To thrive in this role, you’ll need a degree or equivalent relevant experience, alongside a solid understanding of biodiversity and transport planning, especially in the context of urban environments.

Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. IEMA, CIWEM, CIEEM), or a commitment to work towards it, is desirable but not essential.
