The opportunity
The Design School is looking to recruit a Lecturer for the MA Design for Art Direction course. The course explores the art direction practice through a visual communication lens with a particular focus on the transdisciplinarity of design.
This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate with a highly creative approach to implementing a broad range of art direction skills and know-how. The position invites applicants who are keen to facilitate students’ learning in developing innovative approaches to designing in art direction contexts and challenge the boundaries of the role of art directors in creative industries.
As a lecturer you will be responsible to the Course Leader for the delivery of the art direction units on the course, focusing on the relationship between theory and practice in in this field. You will bring research and/or industry and teaching experience at the postgraduate level. You will manage and participate in the delivery of student-centred and inclusive teaching and contribute to course development, assessment, quality management and student recruitment.
About you
We are looking for an individual with a qualification at the undergraduate or postgraduate level relevant to designing for art direction. You will bring knowledge of delivering creative projects in a professional environment and experience in a range of specialist skills in media production, moving image, and interdisciplinary practices within the context of art direction. You will also have comprehensive knowledge of learning and teaching international students.
As an academic, previous teaching experience at the postgraduate level is essential in addition to the experience of research and/or professional practice in designing for art direction or equivalent design practice. You will also be able to cite examples of this industry’s future trajectory and engagement with culturally diverse contexts. You should also demonstrate insight into art direction practices as they intersect with social justice, the climate emergency and other global social, cultural, environmental, political and economic forces that are transforming the design discipline.
The successful candidate should possess effective interpersonal skills and be a student-centred teacher focused on promoting diversity and inclusivity while demonstrating strong communication and organisational skills. We are looking for applicants who can work collaboratively with colleagues to develop the subject area and share expertise.
