The opportunity

We are looking for a committed and motivated Library Assistant to support the delivery of high quality, customer-focused library services at University of the Arts London (UAL).

In this key role, you will provide acquisitions, metadata and subscription support to staff and students, enabling access to resources, collections and services by supporting technical and administrative operations.

To achieve this, you will provide key support by:

  • Assisting with the verification and ordering of material in all formats, as well as handling deliveries and dealing with late orders and cancellations
  • Performing in-house copy cataloguing and identifying, creating and amending bibliographic and item records
  • Routinely claiming for late and undelivered subscription issues and supporting subscription review and renewal
  • Creating and amending prediction patterns within the library management system

In addition to this, you will also help provide an efficient and effective customer service, dealing with queries from both staff and suppliers.

There might be limited opportunities to work from home dependent on operational needs but onsite working will be the main focus for this role.

About you

You will be a personable and customer focused individual, with previous experience of working in a customer service environment.

You will need excellent communication skills and will be able to provide accurate information clearly and concisely to a variety of different audiences.

With excellent digital and IT skills, you will demonstrate an understanding of databases including the library management system, and an understanding of technologies and applications including printers and Microsoft Office 365.

Strong teamwork skills are also essential, along with the ability to deliver basic training to support understanding or learning.

Our culture

And, as a global university, staff and students learn from different cultures and perspectives, which leads to new conversations and innovative work. At our very core, everything we do seeks to challenge the status quo by driving social purpose and standing up for what matters.

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds including those who may feel underrepresented in the workforce due to their socioeconomic circumstances such as those from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (B.A.M.E.) backgrounds. We aim to be a university where everyone can be themselves and are supported to reach their full potential.

With our commitment to inclusion and diversity, we are proud to be a Race Equality Charter (REC) member to help us reduce barriers that negatively impacts B.A.M.E. staff, a Stonewall Diversity Champion to ensure all LGBTQ+ people are valued at work, a Disability Confident Scheme Committed employer and member of the Business Disability Forum which help us to improve the lives of disabled people in the workplace.

Candidates are advised to submit applications early.
