The opportunity
UAL Online is an exciting new division which has been established to enable access to the university’s world learning creative arts education to audiences around the globe. We plan to launch with a suite of new degree courses starting from the 2024/25 academic year.
The Head of Market Data, Analytics and Insight will be the lead for UAL Online in enabling strategic evidence-based decision making. This is a key role that will work with senior stakeholders across UAL to deliver accessible data and analyses that will, in turn, inform key decision making and continuous performance improvements.
Your responsibilities will span across three critical areas for this emerging unit:
- You will lead on the underpinning research needed to identify and create a commercially viable portfolio of courses for launch to a global audience, in very close collaboration with lead academics at UAL.
- You will develop datasets, definitions and frameworks (using internal and external data and marketing analytics tools) to effectively track success and insight through the full acquisition and retention funnel. In close collaboration with the Commercial Director, you will develop enhanced metrics and KPIs to ensure all commercial activity can be effectively evaluated, and new opportunities/interventions proactively identified.
- You will provide key input into the development of strategy for UAL Online, through the provision of research and insight which will help to identify areas of prospective growth and development across the online learning landscape more widely, and our emerging portfolio of qualifications more specifically.
As this is a new unit, you also will play a key role in establishing the initial data architecture within our chosen systems to support the production of robust performance data from initial enquiry through to graduation. To this end, you will work closely and collaboratively with the Digital and Technology teams at UAL. You will need a strong spirit of enquiry and well developed communication and relationship management skills. Working in partnership with multiple stakeholders you will be able to identify and respond to business need and strategic challenges, and deliver the required insight, approach, framework and datasets that allow UAL Online to progress in meeting its ambitious objectives.
You should be a self-starter, with the ability to drive and develop this role alongside the growth of our new UAL Online unit. At this early stage in the unit’s development, we’re looking for someone who is as passionate about advancing a positive team culture and establishing strong relationships with stakeholders, as they are efficient at generating market insight and using data to drive strategic business outcomes.
About you
You will have / be:
- A degree, or equivalent, ideally in a relevant subject, or equivalent experience in a similar or related role(s).
- Evidence of working in a market research or systems data leadership role in an organisation of comparable complexity.
- Experience in higher education, and specifically in online higher education, would be highly desirable.
- Highly numerate and analytical. Experience of interrogating and analysing large datasets to deliver recommendations and actionable insight.
- Experience of using both quantitative and qualitative research methodology approaches to design and deliver insightful market research and insight projects and develop recommendations.
- Demonstrable experience in communicating data in engaging and compelling formats and presenting outcomes in a clear and concise manner. Ability to communicate complex data to a non-technical audience.
- Significant experience of ensuring data quality and accuracy, applying GDPR requirements to collection, analysis, and dissemination of data.
- Substantial experience of working in partnership with senior stakeholders in a complex environment to understand their priorities and challenges and to anticipate and respond to business need.
- Strong stakeholder management, engagement, and relationship skills; anticipating and identifying requirements and challenges with tact, practical flexibility, negotiation, and influence to achieve the desired outcome. Highly collaborative.
- Experience in extracting data from and using CRM systems, particularly Salesforce.
