The opportunity

UAL Online is an exciting new division which has been established to enable access to the university’s world leading creative arts education to audiences around the globe. We plan to launch with a suite of new degree courses starting from the 2024/25 academic year.  

Reporting to the Pro-Vice Chancellor (UAL Online), the Director of Production is responsible for driving strategic operational excellence and ensuring the seamless design and delivery of our educational courses to learners globally. 

  • Learning Design and production – creates and leads the development and production function (learning design, content development, visual design and media) that build the courses and ensure that they are innovative and engaging learning experiences. 
  • Project management – creates and oversees the project management team of the portfolio of UAL’s new online courses, managing staffing resource s and ensuring timely delivery to exacting standards of quality, both in terms of academic rigor and production values.  
  • Supplier and partnership management – leads on the senior account management of new partnerships for UAL Online including OPMs, global university partnerships in online learning, and course aggregators.  
  • Business management operations – responsible for the business operations of the unit, including financial management, HR and estates. 

This role requires diplomacy, drive, strong attention to detail and the ability to build robust and positive relationships with senior stakeholders. As this is a newly formed division, the scope of leadership responsibilities may evolve over time. We are seeking to recruit a self-starter who is energised by change and the notion of growing operations to accommodate a rapidly growing student base and portfolio.   
 
The post holder will work closely with other teams within UAL including Digital and Technology, Finance, Academic Registry and College academic and professional services stakeholders.  

About you

You will have the following: 

  • Extensive experience leading operations, ideally in online learning or publishing
  • Strong understanding of learning design and development approaches 
  • Appreciation for the creative arts, and a desire to build an outstanding UX
  • Considerable leadership experience at a senior level managing multiple different teams 
  • Strong strategic thinking and decision-making abilities, with a track record of optimising processes and driving operational excellence. 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify business opportunities and make data-driven decisions. 
  • Highly driven and results-oriented, with a genuine pursuit of excellence.  

You will be collaborative, target-driven, and a strong team player with a flexible approach to work. The role will include occasional travel in the UK and internationally.
