The opportunity
The University of the Arts London (UAL) is seeking a motivated and talented Communications Manager (International) to join our dynamic communications team. Reporting to the Head of External Communications, you will play a crucial role in enhancing UAL’s reputation and global impact by developing and implementing an external communications strategy. Your expertise in developing and implementing press and media campaigns will help position UAL and our academic experts in prominent media outlets, conferences, and public forums, elevating their profiles globally and advancing our collective impact in support of our 10 year strategy.
This is a brand new role where the postholder will devise and execute a strategic approach to building relationships with key media, working closely with UAL’s leading academics and researchers. Working closely with colleagues in UAL’s Research and Knowledge Exchange and International Relations Unit teams. The post-holder will use communications, and external affairs methods to raise the profile of our impactful research, innovative practice and thought leadership, and build social purpose partnerships that can deliver on our strategic objectives in target markets overseas, focusing on North America initially.
The post sits within the University’s recently formed Social Purpose Group. The group brings together communications, the new Social Purpose Lab, fundraising and UAL’s recently launched Storytelling Institute. Together, the group will enable UAL to change and shape the world for the better.
The communications department is a collaborative, creative and inclusive team who understand the role of communications in championing the transformative power of creative education. We speak on behalf of the creative industries across all platforms and cultivate relationships with some of the country’s leading experts and opinion formers.
The communications team has a vital role to play. We want to bring high quality education to more students than ever before and give our students the education they need to flourish in a changing world. We have ambitious targets including achieving net zero by 2040 and ensuring our workforce is 30% B.A.M.E by 2025.
About you
We are looking for a candidate with a proven track record in developing and delivering complex international press and media campaigns in either an in-house or agency setting. An adept and experienced manager they should be able to lead and mentor their team and build positive internal and external relationships.
