The opportunity
The Design School at London College of Communication is looking for a well-qualified Lecturer to join a growing DPS academic team, who will play a key role working with students from nine academic design BA Courses, to support the bridge between design education and professional practice, nationally and internationally.
A key aspect of the role involves working closely with students individually preparing, supporting and empowering them to experience various ways of working and learning in their various potential professional futures.
DPS is an optional, year-long experiential learning opportunity which enables students to develop their professional skills by undertaking an academic year of relevant professional experience through exploration of various ways of practicing. Supported throughout the year by academics, students build on the knowledge they gain on their BA courses, practicing with new agency and graduating with networks and new knowledge and an additional Diploma qualification in Professional Studies.
Exciting opportunities exist to work with multidisciplinary students, the national and international creative industries, local partnerships and research organisations to ensure that our students experience the most inclusive, innovative, speculative and enterprising opportunities in an interdisciplinary manner, defining a creative industry for the future.
About you
We’re looking for a dedicated, driven individual, interested in both entrepreneurial pedagogies and the future of the creative industries who takes pride in their strong professional and organisational skills and has expertise in creative mentorship. Ideally, they’ll have experience in their own independent creative practice, in creative innovation, problem solving, entrepreneurship, in planning and managing educational resourcing.
We’re seeking someone with knowledge of the collaborative nature of design with a vision of how the creative industries could evolve in the UK and internationally in the future, ensuring that our students exemplify that potential.
They’ll have excellent communication skills, experience of relationship management including communicating with diverse groups of stakeholders and be committed to inclusive and accessible ways of working.
We’re seeking a candidate who is comfortable taking risks and speculating, who enjoys working independently, prioritising their workload and driving initiatives, who is keen to work with Design Course leaders in the development of their discipline post-graduation. We’re looking for someone with excellent attention to detail and a passion for transformative education who has experience in collating and reporting on a range of information and data and communicating with the creative industries.
