The opportunity

We are looking for a Lecturer in Graphic Media Design to collaboratively lead and support the development of curricula, teaching and learning on the MA Graphic Media Design at the London College of Communication.

You will play a significant role in the delivery of a practice-led course where students research, interpret, critique, and visualise data using a range of media, tools, and techniques. The course supports students initiating and delivering a research-led body of enquiry – engaging with the social and ethical implications of this practice – and developing a highly informed critical position.

You will work collaboratively within the course team, deploying specialist expertise to develop pedagogy and the curriculum in innovative and critical directions. This is primarily a teaching and learning position, so an understanding of the context of art and design in higher education and an interest in developing experience in this area is essential.

Your duties will include:

  • Teaching, unit management, curriculum development and research within subject specialisms, whilst contributing to the writing of briefs and teaching and learning materials.
  • Providing expertise in experiential teaching – giving students experiences linked with practice, and developing together with the course leader, innovative and engaging units, lectures, and seminars.
  • Developing industry relationships and projects with UK and global professional practice partners.
  • Liaising with technical and support colleagues to adequately prepare and resource the course and students for technically advanced work.
  • Contributing to and taking responsibility for the learning, teaching, and assessment of students, providing academic and pastoral support as necessary, monitoring student progress and maintaining appropriate records.

About you

You should have previous experience of teaching in Higher Education or a comparable context, and in delivering a high-quality student experience, as well as some knowledge of curriculum development and assessment.

You should be comfortable working with a diverse cohort of students and committed to a teaching approach that integrates theory and practice and will engage students through a combination of innovative pedagogy, knowledge exchange and/or research. You should have or should be willing to attain, with UAL’s support, a relevant teaching qualification or recognition.

You will have a strong commitment to the advancement of your subject and critical discourse in information, data design and associated fields. You should be a practitioner and/or researcher who is keen to use your academic and/or industry-based experience to support the development of student work.
