The opportunity

This role is responsible for leading, developing and implementing UAL’s international recruitment strategies across all modes and levels of study, including Pre-degree, Undergraduate and Postgraduate Taught courses, as well as UAL’s developing online and low residency provision. 

A member of the Senior Management Team within UAL’s Student Marketing, Recruitment and Admissions (SMRA) department, the post holder will work collaboratively across the Colleges and central University departments to ensure the achievement of UAL’s strategic international recruitment and diversity objectives.  

This role will lead and manage the established operation and strategic development of the University’s International Recruitment team in London and Asia Branch Office team in Hong Kong. This will include managing the delivery of the UAL-wide face to face and online recruitment activities and the network of UAL’s overseas recruitment representatives, feeders/schools and other international recruitment channels. In developing and implementing these activities, the post holder will ensure effective collaboration and liaison with other key internal stakeholders involved in international recruitment, including College marketing and recruitment teams, academic colleagues, International Relations Unit, Academic Enterprise International, Alumni, Accommodation, Legal team, and the UAL Awarding Body. 

The post holder will work closely with other teams within SMRA, including the Student Recruitment Content and Marketing, Prospective Student Engagement teams and Admissions, to develop strategic, insight-led marketing and recruitment plans for priority international markets that cover the full breadth of recruitment and marketing activities designed to target UAL’s international audiences. They will also lead and influence University-wide strategic projects designed to support effective international recruitment, working with senior professional and academic colleagues from across UAL to reduce barriers to recruitment to UAL for its target international audiences and improve the prospective student journey from enquiry trough to application and enrolment.

About you

Educated to degree level or equivalent, you will have in depth knowledge of the UK higher education recruitment landscape and in particular the global student recruitment market and government policy relating to international HE. You will be able to demonstrate the following: 

  • Extensive Knowledge: Strong understanding of international student recruitment and admissions in the UK higher education landscape and proven track record of successfully managing and delivering international student recruitment across all levels of study. 
  • Proven Leadership: Proven record of managing staff and leading a high-performing team, and experience of leading and implementing market-focussed, targeted student recruitment strategies and plans. 
  • Collaboration and Relationship Management: You will have extensive experience of managing relationships with external stakeholders such as recruitment agents, feeder institutions and other key influencers, and working collaboratively to ensure the delivery of strategic international recruitment objectives. 
  • Communication: You will have exceptional communication skills including the ability to build strong working relationships and communicate effectively across a diverse set of audiences. The role requires effective internal and external liaison and you will act as a key ambassador representing UAL.
  • Innovative Thinker: Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills, business planning and strategic formulation.

You will be collaborative, target-driven, and a strong team player with a flexible approach to work. The role will include occasional travel in the UK and internationally. Disclosure and Barring Service Check is required.
