The opportunity

We regularly recruit Library Assistants for our term-time only weekend teams based across our six colleges, with different hours of employment ranging between 4.5 hours and up to a total of 14 hours a week with some weekday reserve hours required as part of the role. 

Currently, we have 2 vacant term-time only posts working the following hours for up to 38 weeks a year. Any remaining hours are reserve hours which are worked over the year by agreement, to accommodate weekday opening, plus staff training and development:

Role 1: London College of Fashion (LCF), Stratford, Sunday Library Assistant, Grade 2

9.5 hours per week x 34 weeks and 5.75 hours x 4 weeks. 346 hours p.a. (FTE 0.22), term time only.

This is a 38 week a year contract, salary is spread across 12 months of the year. 

The working pattern for this role is Sunday 09:45am – 20:15pm during BA term time (currently 30 weeks) and 4 Sundays 09:45am – 16:15pm outside BA term time.  

This leaves a number of reserve hours to be worked by arrangement. 

Please note this is at our Stratford location.

Role 2: Wimbledon College of Arts (WIM) Saturday Library Assistant, Grade 2

9.5 hours per week x 34 weeks and 5.75 hours x 4 weeks. 346 hours p.a. (FTE 0.22), term time only.

This is a 38 week a year contract, salary is spread across 12 months of the year. 

The working pattern for this role is Saturday 09:45am – 20:15pm during BA term time (currently 30 weeks) and 4 Saturdays 09:45am – 16:15pm outside BA term time.  

This leaves a number of reserve hours to be worked by arrangement.

As these are term time only posts you do not get a leave allowance and you are expected to work all term time weekends. 

As part of the weekend team, you will assist with the effective delivery of library services on your designated site, although you might occasionally be required to work at any of the other UAL college libraries. 

You will participate in answering enquiries on-line, via our live chat service, ASK. 

You will also participate in on-site front-line services and administrative duties including support for self-issue systems, IT and printing.  You will assist users with general directional and initial information enquiries, including the use of the library catalogue, electronic information resources. 

You may also be required to take part in shelving activities and demonstrate an understanding of manual handling guidelines which will be required when lifting heavy items. 

About you

You will have relevant library or customer service experience and formal training or education to post-16 level. You will also be able to work independently and have excellent written and oral communication skills and be IT literate. Working in a small team you will provide support, assistance and cover where needed and deliver a positive and responsive customer focused service.
