The opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for an innovative academic to play a key role in the development of our distinctive approach to Academic Practice in an arts university environment.
MA Academic Practice is designed for UAL staff who have completed the PgCert Academic Practice or an equivalent course, and who wish to pursue academic practice ideas in more depth. Participants typically undertake educational research, but can also opt to undertake arts-based practice research.
We are looking to recruit a talented educator who has experience and understanding of leading degree courses in the arts university context. Your vision will be closely connected to the future of academic practice, particularly in relation to contemporary turns in research methods and practices. The Course Leader is responsible for overseeing teaching, curriculum development, implementation, and academic leadership for the course; as well as line management of a small team of senior lecturers and hourly paid staff. You will teach across a range of units in both the MA and PgCert Academic Practice courses.
You will be an experienced educator and have a future-facing and pedagogically informed approach to the course’s curriculum development and delivery in light of the changing landscape of arts higher education.
About you
- You will be an experienced course leader who will assure an inclusive, progressive, and high-quality student experience.
- You will be an active researcher, who will contribute knowledge of Academic Practice with specialist expertise in research methods and methodologies.
- You will love teaching research in our staff-as-students community of practice across a range of disciplines and job families, able to support our participants to develop social science and arts-based research projects.
- You will have a postgraduate qualification in a related area, as well as a higher education teaching qualification and be an Advance HE Fellow (FHEA).
We particularly encourage applications from academics from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (B.A.M.E.) backgrounds, who are currently under-represented within the University in this area.
Before completing an application form, candidates should please download the candidate information pack and the job description/person specification for the role and read the full list of requirements and selection criteria before applying as this will be the criteria on which your application will be assessed.
Closing date for applications, Thursday 23 November 23:55pm
Interviews are scheduled to take place on Tuesday 5 December 2023.
