The opportunity

The MA Animation Online course at UAL’s London College of Communication is looking to recruit a specialist Lecturer in animation with a particular focus on developing innovative approaches to character, 2D animation and narrative.

The Lecturer in animation is responsible for teaching online, curriculum development, and on-going scholarship. This course is part of the Moving Image and Digital Arts programme at London College of Communication. The post-holder will work collaboratively within a course team, deploying specialist expertise to develop pedagogy and the curriculum in innovative and critical directions.

About you

We are looking for an outstanding teacher, practitioner and/or researcher to join the MA Animation Online course. You will have experience of higher education (or comparable context), an ability to participate in curriculum development and assessment, a sound knowledge of the theories and practices in 2D animation both digital and analogue and will ideally be able to contribute to the programme’s research and/or knowledge exchange profile.

You should be comfortable working with diverse cohorts of students and committed to a teaching approach that integrates theory and practice and will engage students through a combination of innovative pedagogy, knowledge exchange and/or research. You’ll have/should be willing to attain, with UAL’s support, a relevant teaching qualification or recognition.

An MA in Animation or associated fields is preferred but not essential if comparable experience can be evidenced. You should possess a record of professional practice/research, with a proficiency in 2D animation practice, theory and concepts including storyboarding, design, contemporary narrative form and structure, animation film language and should also be familiar with other experimental and expanded forms of animation practice. You should also demonstrate knowledge of a range of analogue and digital animation skills and practice including the use of software such as Toon Boom Harmony/Storyboard Pro and Adobe Suite (After Effects, Animate, etc.).

You should be a specialist practitioner and/or researcher who is keen to use your academic and/or industry-based experience to support the development of student work on the MA Animation Online course. You’ll be proactive and actively contribute to the programme’s aims and vision. You should have a strong understanding of the contemporary context of animation in an academic and/or professional setting and be engaged in relevant networks and communities of practice within this and/or related fields.
