The opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for you to develop in a customer-focussed and collections-centred role.  You will work closely with the Archives and Special Collections Centre team to deliver an accredited archive service. You will support teaching, learning and research activities by participating in front-line services, collections care and administrative duties.  You will be confident and competent with the safe handling of objects and archive materials, as well as able to perform frequent manual handling duties. This work may take place on site at the London College of Communication, as well as offsite at other college and external locations.

You will participate in a rota to invigilate users and retrieve materials from the strong room. You will assist with introductory tours and other taught sessions, for individuals as well as groups of students/researchers, in the effective use of archives and special collections, and object-based learning.  In addition, you will support research queries and carry out scanning/photocopying of archive materials to industry standards. 

You will take part in numerous collections care activities, including using archives and object collection management systems. You will assist with the curation of archive materials, artworks and objects for loan, and support the delivery of exhibitions.  You will assist with the preservation of physical and digital collections, in line with preservation advice.

You will also undertake a variety of administrative duties, including routine finance system procedures, recording statistics and generating reports. You will collate qualitative and quantitative data to evaluate the ASCC’s activities.

About you

We are looking for someone with experience of working in a customer service environment who demonstrates interest in service delivery and customer service standards.

You will have excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to make people feel welcome and to listen and respond in a diplomatic and inclusive manner. You will effectively deliver basic training or briefings to support understanding or learning. You will possess digital skills including the use of  databases and collection management systems and confidence using IT hardware such as printers and software including Microsoft Office 365. 

You will demonstrate flexibility to plan, prioritise and organise work to achieve objectives on time. while working collaboratively as part of a team, completing shared tasks, asking for & giving support as needed.
