The opportunity

Central Saint Martins is a world-leading centre for arts and design education.  Its reputation stems from the creative energy of its staff and students. The vision for CSM commits us to social equality, climate justice and public commons.  The Art Programme at CSM explores the boundaries of the discipline and associated realms. This is a diverse and energised teaching and learning community where all are active as creative professionals and researchers. The team are comprised of emerging and established academics and practitioners who bring together a breadth of influence and new creative insight to inform and enhance an ambitious vision for the discipline area that is firmly committed to social purpose, fairness and cultural representation. Students and staff are continually alert to new ideas, and are curious and restless in developing beyond the expected norms of their subject; emerging work is at the forefront of its area.

BA Fine Art is an established and globally respected course that has influenced and informed practice and research across a breadth of intellectual and creative territories. It  recognises the broad diversity of social, political, cultural, economic and technological contexts in which contemporary art is made and exhibited. Working together, staff and students interrogate the multiple and varied ways in which artists make work and make work public. The Art Programme takes a radical, interdisciplinary, experimental and frequently collaborative approach to creative making. This perspective is reflected in the community of teaching and technical staff that input into the BA Fine Art course.

We are looking for a dynamic, highly skilled and experienced academic practitioner to join the Art Programme as the Pathway Leader for 3D on BA Fine Art. The pathway structure on BA Fine Art creates a focus for sustained critical engagement. It allows students to both specialise and develop an interdisciplinary working practice. You will lead and manage on the teaching of the pathway, managing resources and people. You will play a key role in the programme, undertaking teaching, assessment, and curriculum development. You will work closely with colleagues from the Programme, Academic Support, Student Services and the college community.

About you

We’re looking for someone who has have an in-depth understanding and personal experience of teaching and facilitating creative practices in fine art practices. You will be expected to have experience of managing teams, budgets, content and complex activities in an HE setting. Creative and highly motivated, you’ll be able to take up the challenges of enabling diverse student cohorts to explore their practice from and within their own individual context.

UAL is committed to addressing the under-representation of staff from Black and Minority Ethnic communities, using our student profile as a reference point.

In return, University of the Arts London offers an attractive salary and pension plus a commitment to your continuing personal development and training in an environment that encourages excellence, creativity and diversity.
