The opportunity
University of the Arts London (UAL) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to lead on a one-year cross-university project to develop a plan to decrease the waste generated from our courses, drive down students’ cost of study, and reduce our carbon footprint.
Making is at the heart of UAL’s teaching and research. Many of our courses rely on tangible resources and virgin materials that can drive up the cost of study for students whilst adding to waste and pollution. Our ambitious goal is to transform the systems and behaviours around our teaching, so that what cannot be reduced can be reused, and what can’t be reused can be recycled. As a Project Manager, you will lead a process to devise a plan for the embedding of material reuse and circularity into our course delivery.
You will lead work in two phases, conducting an appraisal and evaluation of the current material circularity initiatives in courses across the university, as well as proposing a phased roll-out of a new, organisation-wide material circularity strategy for our teaching and research. You will identify the Material Reuse and Circularity Project’s goals, objectives, and scope, creating and communicating a project plan that outlines the tasks, timelines, and resources required to meet our goals.
About you
You will be educated to degree level or will possess the equivalent experience. You will possess significant experience of planning complex projects with multiple stakeholders. Experience in a university setting, in the creative industries and/or in materials reuse initiatives will be an advantage.
You will possess excellent project management skills, with an ability to influence others and to plan, prioritise and manage resources effectively to achieve long term objectives. You will possess strong communication skills as well as the ability to communicate complex ideas in a simple, accessible way to a range of audiences across the university.
We are offering an informal pre-application Q&A session to interested candidates for this role on Wednesday 27th September 2023 at 1pm.
