The opportunity

University of the Arts London is seeking a Course Leader for our world leading BA Costume for Theatre and Screen course, at Wimbledon College of Arts.

You’ll provide academic leadership and management of the course, overseeing day-to-day responsibilities which encompasses all areas of teaching, learning and assessment of students, as well as resource allocation. You’ll play a key role in the maintenance, enhancement, design, development and delivery of the curriculum, providing a clear vision for the course that will seek to develop and enhance its quality.

You’ll ensure that the learning, teaching and assessment methods employed on the course are appropriate to the academic award, and are catered to the demands of the subject, learning styles and the developmental stages of our students. This is an exciting opportunity to to take this well established, internationally recognized course, with its strong links to industry, in new and exciting directions and equip our students with the skills and expertise necessary for success in the costume industry.

About you

You’ll possess a strong academic background with undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in a relevant subject, as well as significant knowledge and experience of the costume industry. You’ll draw on a wealth of experience, which will include experience of teaching costume at undergraduate level, experience of curriculum development and experience of costume applied in a professional context. You’ll demonstrate an understanding of the differences and similarities between Costume Design and Costume Interpretation, and an awareness of new innovations, technical advancements and opportunities within a broad costume context.

You’ll be an effective communicator, with the ability to motivate and lead a team effectively, setting clear objectives to manage performance. Effective team working and excellent planning and organisational skills will be essential for success in the role, including an ability to seek practical solutions to new or unique problems.
