The opportunity

University of the Arts London (UAL) is looking for an exceptional individual to join London College of Communication (LCC) as the Dean of Design School. This position offers a unique opportunity to provide strong academic and managerial leadership to a world-class Design School, whilst contributing to the strategic development of both LCC and the University.

As Dean you will lead the development and delivery of the curriculum within the School, ensuring that all learning and teaching is supported by cutting-edge digital and physical learning environments. You will build and maintain an academic environment that promotes outstanding research, creative practice and public-facing knowledge exchange. With a strong focus on delivering an excellent student experience and fostering strong graduate outcomes, you will provide visionary and effective leadership to the academic and support teams, cultivating a culture of inclusivity and high performance.

As a member of the College Executive Board and Management Group, you will play an integral part in implementing UAL’s Strategy 2030 and College Annual Operating plans, where you will help meet key performance indicators whilst advancing the objectives of the University. Additionally, your expertise will contribute to the operational and strategic development processes of the College, offering insights on student number planning and resource requirements, both human and physical, to support LCC’s curriculum offer.

About you

You will possess extensive knowledge and experience within your subject area, educated to PhD level or equivalent qualifications or professional experience, and recognised as a leading authority in your subject or professional area. You will have a substantial record of teaching, research, and/or professional practice in one or more of the School’s specialist areas, which will contribute to your ability to shape and influence developments within the School.

As an effective leader, you will be capable of inspiring and motivating others, setting the direction for one or more functions and promoting collaboration across formal boundaries. Your exceptional planning, prioritisation, and project management skills will enable you to achieve long-term strategic objectives. You will possess the ability to build and nurture effective teams, networks, and communities of practice, in order to foster constructive cross-team collaboration.
