The opportunity

The Moving Image and Digital Arts (MIDA) Programme seeks an outstanding practitioner, teacher and/or researcher to join the Programme as a Lecturer in Immersive Media and 3D Computer Animation. MIDA is part of the Screen School at UAL’s London College of Communication. Our Programme includes 3D animation, games design, immersive media & mixed reality, and visual effects.  

Supporting the course leaders to BA Immersive Media and Mixed Reality and MA 3D Computer Animation, you will deploy specialist expertise to assist with curriculum planning and teaching activities, such as course delivery, grading, and tutorials. You will actively pursue the latest technical developments in immersive media and 3D animation software and hardware and will help customise this knowledge for students with different study backgrounds and technical skills. You will work collaboratively across courses in the MIDA Programme, deploying specialist expertise to support pedagogy and the curriculum in innovative and critical directions. The role will be focused on teaching specialist skills for immersive media such as virtual reality, augmented reality, 360-degree film making and 3D Computer Animation.   

The post will contribute to the Screen School’s commitment to innovation in immersive media design and 3D Animation in the belief that extended reality has the ability to make a substantial and positive contribution to the arts. 

About you

Experience of higher education (or comparable context), interest to participate in curriculum development and ability to participate in assessment, record of professional practice/research in immersive media development, design and 3D Computer Animation.

Candidates should demonstrate technical knowledge to design and develop content for virtual reality/augmented reality/mixed reality/360-degree film/ 3D computer animation; level and character design principles and pipelines, preferably but not only limited to Unity and scripting. Familiarity with motion capture is desirable.   

Candidates should be familiar with the theories and practices in immersive media and 3D development and design, as well as apply conceptual problem solving, principles of design research and thinking, and user experience.
