The opportunity

University of the Arts London is seeking a Specialist Technician to join our team at Camberwell College of Arts. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the learning experiences of our students and contribute to their creative journeys.

In this role, you will provide invaluable technical expertise, guidance, and advice, playing a vital role in the delivery of learning activities within our 3D workshops. You will support day-to-day operational needs, ensuring the smooth running of equipment and the workshop space. Drawing upon your specialist knowledge, you will empower students to explore and utilise the digital fabrication resources available, both independently and supervised.

As an integral member of our team, you will actively engage with technical teaching and the delivery of relevant technical expertise to foster the creative and expressive intentions of our students within our studios and workshops. Your contributions will include providing feedback to students and contributing to their informal formative assessments, all while aligning with the learning outcomes of the subject ethos or course narrative.

About you

To succeed in this role, you will possess a strong academic background, holding qualifications to at least BA level in either Art, Design, or Performance. Alternatively, industry equivalent qualifications, experience, or certifications that demonstrate your level of technical knowledge will be required for the role. You will provide experience of 3D printing, Laser cutting and/or CNC processes including file preparation and file repair. Familiarity with working in an HE environment and awareness of current pedagogic practice will be highly valued.

You must also demonstrate extensive technical knowledge of digital fabrications processes, including an understanding of digital design software (both 2D and 3D). Excellent communication skills will be essential as you collaborate effectively with students, colleagues, and external partners, along with an ability to inspire and motivate students. In addition to this, you will demonstrate an ability to actively contribute to learning activities such as group skills sessions, and will be capable of creating learning resources such as hand outs and online content.

Interviews are scheduled to take place in early August 2023.
