The opportunity

University of the Arts London is seeking a Specialist Technician to join our team at Camberwell College of Arts. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the learning experiences of our students and contribute to their creative journeys.

As a Specialist Technician, you will provide technical expertise, guidance, and advice within our Fine Art studio spaces, with a specific focus on Sculpture and Computational Arts. You will actively engage with students and will supervise learning activities, offering support and knowledge to develop the expressive/creative intentions of learning activities within the Studios.

You will also provide constructive feedback and will contribute to student informal formative assessments, with reference to appropriate learning outcomes of the Subject ethos or Course narrative. You will support students with practical and digital processes, whilst also developing interlinking knowledges surrounding creative industries and contemporary art world procedures, with an eye on student sustainable practices.

About you

To succeed in this role, you will possess a strong academic background, holding qualifications at least to BA level either in Art, Design, or Performance. Alternatively, industry equivalent qualifications, experience, or certifications that demonstrate your level of technical knowledge will be required for the role. You will provide experience of working in a range of Fine Art and creative manufacturing environments, along with an understanding of interdisciplinary installation methods (both physical and digital). Familiarity with working in an HE environment and awareness of current pedagogic practice will be highly valued.

You must also demonstrate extensive technical knowledge of a wide range of 2D/3D/Digital making, fabrication and trans-disciplinary processes and techniques, as well as knowledge of a range of art and design software (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite) and applied 3D Modelling software (e.g. Blender). Excellent communication skills will be essential as you collaborate effectively with students, colleagues, and external partners, along with an ability to inspire and motivate students.

Interviews are scheduled to take place in early August 2023.

Should you have any questions about the application process or require reasonable adjustments for your application, please contact Aruna Dhinakaran, Resourcing Assistant at jobs.ccw@arts.ac.uk.
