The opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to join the London College of Communication Research team, leading work to expand the capacity of the PhD programme as our student cohort grows.
The research community at LCC is made up of world-renowned practitioners and theorists specialising in film, current practices and histories of photography, communication studies, sound arts, graphic and information design, and spatial design.
Working with the Associate Dean of Research, Research Co-ordinators and research pathways colleagues, the Research Degrees Coordinator’s primary responsibility will be to foster a welcoming and supportive research environment for PhD students throughout the journey from application to alum. You will have the opportunity to provide both academic and pastoral support, including settling in new students, nurturing relationships with established students, monitoring progress, offering guidance on research ethics, maintaining and further developing a positive research culture and enabling students to access research resources. You will also lead the LCC Research Student Forum, manage the Student Support Fund and hold regular meetings with PhD student representatives.
About you
With a strong academic background, including a PhD or higher-level research degree, you’ll be a PhD supervisor with real enthusiasm and commitment to developing LCC postgraduate research student culture and possess a passion for creating an even more diverse and inclusive culture.
The successful candidate will have supervised at least one PhD to successful completion, ideally as a Director of Studies. They should be familiar with debates and research relating to access and the PhD student pipeline for global majority students and have undertaken successful completion of the ‘Supervising Research Degrees’ unit at UAL, or an equivalent qualification elsewhere.
If you have any queries about this role or need any reasonable adjustments for your application, please contact Lesley Wilkins, Senior Resourcing Adviser, lcc.jobs@lcc.arts.ac.uk or telephone: 020 7514 7985
