As future-facing creatives, we explore and rethink what communication is and why it matters.
We are London College of Communication
The staff at London College of Communication are a dynamic community with a diversity of voices and experiences. We are passionate about supporting our students to explore the power of storytelling, discover new possibilities in creative communications, develop a career they love, and to make a difference across wider society.
Our outstanding facilities are central to life at LCC, and enable us to learn, research, make and innovate. We have three Schools:
- Design School – believes in the power of design practice, thinking and research to effect strategic change and shape positive futures
- Media School – connects individuals and wider society while telling powerful narratives through words, visuals and photography
- Screen School – uses sight and sound to create immersive experiences in a collaborative community
We use the diversity of our skills, voices and experiences to work closely with local communities and transform the world around us and have strong industry networks that enable us to collaborate with organisations ranging from start-ups and charities to leading global businesses.
Our history
- 1894: One of our founding organisations, St Brides Foundation Institute, is established to provide specialist printing education. Over time, it merges with a number of other schools and colleges to develop its scope across graphic arts.
- 1954: Artist and designer Tom Eckersley establishes our undergraduate course in graphic design – the very first in Britain. Today, his work can be found in UAL’s Archives and Special Collections Centre, which also holds the Stanley Kubrick Archive.
- 1962: We move to our home in Elephant and Castle and became known as London College of Printing. Over the years, we begin to develop our teaching across areas including photography, film and public relations.
- 2004: To reflect the growing diversity of our courses, we became London College of Communication.
- 2017: We launch Screen School, which brings together traditional areas including film, television and animation with emerging disciplines such as games design and virtual reality.
