The opportunity

As the 2nd highest ranked university for Art and Design study, UAL is one of the world’s most international universities, welcoming students from 130 countries to learn and gain the skills they need to flourish in a changing world. Up to 1,000 students a year studying elsewhere in the world join UAL’s Study Abroad courses, which include integrated undergraduate degree programmes, semester and summer courses, elective modules and customised courses for our international partner institutes.

UAL’s Study Abroad programmes form part of our Academic Enterprise International Department, generating surplus through specialist education courses for the international market

To support and grow our online and face to face provision, we are seeking to appoint an Academic Lead for Study Abroad, who will provide academic leadership and oversight to AEI’s suite of Study Abroad programmes.

As the Academic Lead – Study Abroad, you will be responsible for leading on quality assurance, curriculum development, continuous professional development (CPD), and on-going scholarship on the University’s specialist Study Abroad courses. This will involve close engagement with UAL’s quality assurance teams, ensuring appropriate processes and documentation are in place to support the needs of our students and partner institutions.

Leading up a team of 120 hourly paid lecturers, you will maintain oversight of all areas of teaching, learning and student progress monitoring and assessment, including providing academic support as necessary. You will draw on specialist expertise to stimulate innovation, creativity and critical thinking in the curriculum, attracting applicants and driving student recruitment.

You will also work closely with undergraduate course leaders across UAL, as well as with our international academic partners, including student’s home universities, to ensure we continue to deliver high-quality creative education to our Study Abroad students.

About you

You will be an effective and motivating leader, with demonstrative experience of team leadership, including setting direction, agreeing objectives and promoting collaboration across formal boundaries.

You will have a keen understanding of the UK Higher Education environment, with a particular emphasis on developments in Arts and Design practises and research, ensuring the curriculum remains at the forefront of creative and professional practice.

A wide-ranging understanding of the relevant cultural and contextual knowledge, particularly in relation to international education and meeting international student need, is equally important to this role.

You will have experience of teaching and assessment in a UK Higher Education setting, including delivering varied and diverse pedagogical approaches, while maintain an inquiring, innovative, and student-centred approach.

This includes experience of developing and delivering taught workshops in relevant techniques and processes.
